From Head Preference to Helmet Free: Kai's Story at Third Space Chiropractic
If you are a Miami mom searching for a pediatric chiropractor for your newborn, chances are you have questions. Maybe your baby has a head preference, a flat spot, a fussy latch, or hates tummy time. Kai's parents had all of these questions too, and his story is one we could not wait to share.
Kai came to us at just a few weeks old
Like many newborns, Kai had a strong preference for turning his head to one side. His parents also noticed some flattening developing on one side of his head, and breastfeeding had become a struggle. His latch felt fussy and disorganized, tummy time was a battle, and mom was searching for answers.
Why newborns develop a head preference
A head preference often starts in the womb or during birth, when a baby's body holds tension from being in one position for so long. That tension can limit how freely a baby is able to turn, which is also why flat spots and tummy time struggles so often show up together. At Third Space, we look at the nervous system as a whole rather than treating each symptom on its own.
What changed after a few visits
Within just a few visits, Kai's head preference resolved completely. He was turning freely in both directions, something his parents had not seen since he was born.
His parents had also scheduled an appointment with Cranial Technologies to be fitted for a helmet to help reshape his head. At his re-examination, the team there was so surprised by his progress that they told his parents he no longer needed one. His head shape had improved dramatically, all from releasing the tension held inside his tiny body rather than reshaping it from the outside.
His latch transformed too. What was once fussy and disorganized became deep and comfortable, for Kai and for mom. Tummy time went from something he hated to something he now genuinely enjoys.
Why this matters for your baby
So many parents assume a flat spot, a head preference, or a rough start to breastfeeding are just things to wait out. Often, they are signs that a baby's nervous system needs a little support to do what it is already designed to do. Kai's body did not need to be fixed from the outside. It needed the interference removed so it could heal itself.
